Who Does What?
IAYPAA Advisory is a rotating body of trusted servants preserving the experience and continuity of previous conferences while supporting future Host and Bid Committees.
Leads Council meetings, prepares agendas, facilitates votes, serves as liaison with the Host Committee and helps orient newly elected Advisory members.
Performs the Chairperson's duties when needed and carries out additional responsibilities assigned by the Council.
Maintains financial records and reports, manages Council financial documentation and assists Host and Bid Committees with sound financial practices.
Supports the Treasurer, fills in when necessary and helps maintain appropriate financial checks and balances.
Maintains Council materials, records meeting minutes, distributes information and helps members access IAYPAA's digital files and records.
Assists Host and Bid Committees with hotel contracts, negotiations and venue planning and participates in review of the final contract.
Maintains IAYPAA's website, digital materials, archives and backups and helps oversee official social media administration.
Preserves IAYPAA historical materials, coordinates digital archives with the Webmaster and maintains conference artifacts and the IAYPAA banner.
Promotes IAYPAA across Iowa and beyond, coordinates Advisory participation and assists communities interested in placing a bid.
Supports the Bid Chair and performs those duties when necessary to help ensure statewide IAYPAA outreach and representation.
Helps uphold Council procedures and bylaws, coordinates updates and supports alignment with A.A.'s Steps, Traditions and Concepts.
Voting Council members who encourage conference participation, support Host and Bid Committees and perform duties assigned by Advisory.
Provide support, opinion and experience and may step into a voting role when needed to help Advisory maintain quorum.
How IAYPAA Works
IAYPAA is carried forward through cooperation between Advisory, the current Host Committee and communities preparing to bid for future conferences. Each has a different job, but the experience of one conference helps strengthen the next.
Interested communities organize Bid Committees, learn from Advisory and present their vision for hosting a future IAYPAA.
Advisory Council
Preserves institutional experience, history and continuity and provides guidance to Host and Bid Committees.
Host Committee
Plans and produces the current annual IAYPAA conference while retaining autonomy in its conference planning.
Bid Committees
Communities interested in hosting a future IAYPAA organize, prepare and present bids for consideration.
Our History
Since 2016, IAYPAA has moved among communities across Iowa, carrying recovery, unity, service and conference experience from one host city to the next.
