About us
Iowa Young People In Alcoholics Anonymous provides an opportunity for A.A. members from all over the state to come together and share their experience, strength, and hope.
It is a function of A.A. members in accordance with GSO guidelines for ‘Conference and Conventions’ that allows for heavy participation in service aspects of the conference by newer and/or younger Iowa members, providing exposure to the 12 Traditions, 12 Concepts for World Service, service committees, and a convention of A.A. members-all vital components of the attraction that keep people coming back.
IAYPAA conference was first held in Des Moines, Iowa in 2016. It continues to move to different cities across the state. At each conference, bids are accepted from cities wishing to host the next IAYPAA conference.
Members of IAYPAA and other Young People’s Groups and conferences are in no way separate from Alcoholics Anonymous as a whole. Members are involved in and committed to all levels of A.A. service, from the group levels to the General Service Conference, and at every level in-between. Newcomers are shown, by people their own age or those who are young at heart.
News You Can Use
Just to the extent that we do as we think He would have us, and humbly rely on Him, does He enable us to match calamity with serenity. – A.A. Big Book, Pg. 68

What Happens At The Conference?
There will be daily meetings covering a wide range of topics, different social events (dances, games, etc.), and other educational activities. The conference also provides an opportunity for Alcoholics to meet and make friends with other sober individuals across the country.

What Are The Meetings Like?
There are 12 steps, 12 traditions, open discussions, panels and speaker meetings. All meetings are open to any conference attendees. This A.A. conference is also for all members regardless of age. We define “Young People” as anyone who still has room to grow.

What Is The Purpose Of The Conference?
To carry the message to the still suffering alcoholic, provide an opportunity to fellowship with other alcoholics, and to promote unity in the host city. The conference itself only lasts a weekend, but it takes a year to plan and dozens of volunteers.

Where Have We Been?
The conference has been different cities, where we have created a sense of unity among individuals and groups that lasts well after the conference ends…
